Organized Medicine amidst the COVID 19 pandemic

Posted over 3 years ago by Yonit Lipkind

Dear NPNY,

Please see the following message from AANP. Visit the link for further information on this matter.

Organized Medicine’s Attacks on Nurse Practitioner (NP) Care Refuted
The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) issued a press release in response to recent slanderous, false and misleading statements made by organized medicine about the care provided by NPs. “As our nation faces the most significant health crisis in the last 100 years,” AANP Chief Executive Officer (CEO) David Hebert, JD, said, “it is disappointing that organized medicine is focusing its attention, not on expanding access to health care for patients, but on attacking our country’s more than 290,000 NPs as they work to ensure continued access to care for all patients — including those suffering from COVID-19 and health care disparities.”

Report Now – Let AANP Know About Negative or Inaccurate NP-related Media Activity
Thank you to all who have visited the Report Now page to keep AANP informed about current negative or inaccurate content related to NPs that appears in traditional or social media. Below are recent items members reported and AANP evaluated for response in defense of the NP role.
  • Comments that NPs make online, including in closed social media groups, continue to be used by anti-NP entities to tarnish the NP and AANP brands. New Twitter accounts were recently created to troll and mock NPs and NP students. Those accounts use the names, photos and content posted by NPs and NP students to discredit NPs.
  • An anti-NP physician group held a virtual press conference and disparaged NP education.
  • The leader of an organized medicine group posted a negative Twitter thread about Full Practice Authority for NPs and physician assistants.
AANP members are encouraged to take extreme caution when posting on social media. You may also read AANP’s responses and access talking points that match myths about NPs to corresponding facts. Please continue to use the Report Now form to make AANP aware of content that should be addressed.
