Dear NPNY members,

A letter from the President of AANP:

Dear AANP members,

Yesterday, we reached out for your help to address a WGN television broadcast news story deriding nurse practitioner care. The story was presented with a clear bias and an absence of balance, and it was missing critical facts. Thousands of you contacted the station with your concerns, and for that, I am truly thankful. AANP has issued a statement in response to the broadcast.

The facts are clear, and research has proven time and time again: NPs provide high-quality care and meet the health care needs of millions of Americans every day. You are outstanding clinicians and should be proud of the access and quality care you provide.

AANP will continue to stand for the truth and respond to attacks on our profession. Together, we will work to address inaccuracies in reporting and educate the public and the media on the exceptional care NPs provide, which includes increasing health care choices and access.

Please know that while you remain focused on delivering high-quality patient care throughout this pandemic and beyond, AANP will continue to advocate for you and the NP role and continue to ensure policymakers, patients and the media know the real story of the exceptional health care that NPs provide.

Onward,

Sophia L. Thomas, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, PPCNP-BC, FNAP, FAANP
President, The American Association of Nurse Practitioners
