Connecticut Achieves Full Practice Authority!
Posted over 11 years ago by Juliette Blount
Several years of concentrated effort by the state's NP community paid off this week as Connecticut Governor Malloy signed Senate Bill 36 into law and made Connecticut the 18th state to authorize full practice authority. The CT measure retires the regulated collaborative agreements for NPs with three years of experience under the existing collaborative model with a physician, and it introduces continuing education hours and business reporting measures for NPs that are parallel to those of physicians. The bill faced considerable opposition from the state's medical societies, including a two-hour debate on the House floor that included an unsuccessful amendment to require residencies for NPs. Congratulations to the governor, legislators and NPs who held strong for patients and brought this new law to fruition. AANP's response when the bill passed the legislature is available here.
