PUERTO RICO NP BILL PASSES HOUSE

Posted almost 11 years ago by Juliette Blount

The U.S. territory of Puerto Rico (PR) is taking steps toward defining the NP role. Last year, nursing leaders in PR introduced Law Project (Bill) # 1051. The measure will help define the scope of practice for NPs practicing in the territory. On Thursday, October 30, Project 1051 passed the PR House of Representatives with strong support and will move on to the Senate for further consideration. AANP would like to acknowledge the work of Dr. Carmen López, AANP State Representative for Puerto Rico, and all her colleagues in PR for their work. Since Puerto Rico began recognizing the NP role in 2002, NPs in the territory have continued their efforts to care for patients and bring the APRN Consensus Model to the territory.
