Objectives:
  • At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the basic pharmacology of antihypertensive medications.
  • Apply JNC-8 Guidelines to the patient with hypertension.
  • Evaluate appropriateness of antihypertensive regimens with different patient comorbidities.
  • Interpret culture results and identify host factors to consider when selecting appropriate antibiotics.
  • Utilize pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics when selecting appropriate antibiotic regimens.
  • Assess therapeutic drug levels for vancomycin and aminoglycosides.
  • Discuss pharmacology of antibiotic classes as it relates to specific clinical scenarios.
  • Discuss the clinically significant anticoagulation pathways.
  • Describe the mechanism of action and pharmacology of warfarin, heparins,and the novel anticoagulants.
  • Defend selection of different anticoagulants in standard risk and high risk thrombotic disorders.
  • Participate in Question & Answer sessions.
